Shoppers contacted the Westport Police Department on Friday, June 15 after spotting a man - later identified as Fredy Muralles-Meijia - who was allegedly in possession of a shotgun, which he was pointing toward the entrance of Benjamin Moore on Post Road.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Muralles-Meijia inside a van with other occupants, in possession of a broken air rifle he was seeking to return after purchasing paint at the store. Muralles-Meijia was also in possession of brass knuckles.

Police said that Muralles-Meijia’s intentions were not malicious, and when he was spotted pointing the gun at the store, he was attempting to show his passenger how it wasn’t working while they were in the van.

Muralles-Meijia was arrested and charged with breach of peace and possession of weapons in a vehicle. Following processing, he was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Justice Court on June 25 to answer the charges.
